YouTube, has introduced a new “Breaking News” section to its homepage.
The Breaking News section shows a collection of videos from around the world. These videos are going to focus on what is going on in the news and events. You will see this feature on both mobile, as well as desktop.
However, YouTube does test runs and experiments with different features on its site all the time. (Though these trial runs are usually pretty limited.) With the new breaking news section, it does seem to be widespread. There are still some YouTube users though that it does not appear to have rolled out to yet.
The Vegas attack being the most recent major incident that has happened in the world, the Breaking News section has been showing the popular videos related to this event. When you take a look at the new section, it shows region-specific videos displayed in horizontal scrollable format. The section includes options like ‘Recommended’, ‘Watch It Again’, and ‘Recently Uploaded’.
If you or someone else wishes to not see the Breaking News section, there is an option to remove it from the homepage, by clicking on the ‘X’ if using a desktop or ‘Not Interested’ if using mobile.
At this point, it is not clear if the ‘Breaking News’ section will appear daily or only when something major occurs. The feature is live on live on the iOS and Android YouTube apps, as well as the desktop site.
